Placement-based estimate
Rug size formula
The result starts with the furniture group rather than a fixed product size. The editable extension represents the rug visible beyond the sofa, dining table and pulled-out chairs, or bed.
Rug dimension = furniture dimension + (extension × 2)
Choose by layout, not label
Dining layouts need enough rug beyond the table for chairs to move without catching an edge. Bedroom and living-room choices depend on which furniture legs should sit on the rug. Use painter's tape to test the calculated outline.
Worked room-fit decision
Suppose a seating group measures 200 × 100 cm and the clear room is 350 × 280 cm. Changing only the extension on each side produces different footprints. These are chosen example dimensions, not recommended product sizes.
| Extension per side | Rug footprint | Centered floor border | Room fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 cm | 300 × 200 cm | 25 cm at length ends; 40 cm at width sides | Fits |
| 70 cm | 340 × 240 cm | 5 cm at length ends; 20 cm at width sides | Fits on paper; check walking space |
| 80 cm | 360 × 260 cm | Exceeds room length by 10 cm | Does not fit |
A positive room-fit result only compares rectangles. Even the 70 cm option leaves just 5 cm at each length end if centered, which may be unsuitable near a doorway. Mark the actual product dimensions on the floor and check paths around the seating group.
